Change the background colour of a photo
Swap a photo's background for a solid colour, a blurred version of the original or a picture of your own. The AI cuts out the subject on your device, then you pick the new background and download it at full resolution, with no upload and no watermark.

How to change the background colour of a photo
- 1
Add your photo

Choose one of the preset colours or open Custom colour to pick any shade or type a hex code. Or switch to Blur for a soft, portrait-mode look, or Image to put your own picture behind the subject.
- 3
Download
Turn on the drop shadow if you want depth, then download as PNG, JPG or WebP at full resolution.
Four kinds of background
None
A transparent background, saved as PNG or WebP.
Colour
White, light grey, near-black, pink, red, amber, green, blue, or any colour from the picker or a hex code.
Blur
A blurred copy of your original photo behind the sharp subject, with an adjustable strength from 1 to 100.
Image
Any picture of your own, scaled and cropped to fill the frame. It stays on your device too.
Ideas
Profile pictures and CVs
A plain white, grey or brand-colour background looks clean on LinkedIn, a CV or a team page.
Matching team photos
Add everyone's photos at once and give them all the same colour, then download them as a ZIP.
Thumbnails and social posts
Put yourself or a product on a bold colour or a new scene that stands out in a feed.
ID-style photos
You can change the background to white or light grey. The tool doesn't resize or crop to passport sizes, so check the official rules for your document.
Getting a natural result
Hair and soft edges look more natural on a new background if you add a little Edge softness in the Edges tab. A drop shadow helps the subject sit on a plain colour instead of floating.
When you use your own background image, pick one with similar lighting and perspective to the original photo. For a blurred background, a strength between 30 and 60 is a good place to start.
